Nola Anderson Yarbrough, 66, passed away on Thursday, August 11th in her home.
Nola was born Bonnie Lou Hunter in Hartford, Connecticut, on August 28, 1944. She was later adopted by Bill and Claudine Anderson of Torrington, Connecticut where she graduated from high school as the class Valedictorian in 1962. She attended Russell Sage College (New York) and graduated with a bachelor’s in political science in 1966. She later earned a Master’s in Human Resources from the University of Oklahoma in 1995.
She married John Smith of Elmer, Louisiana in 1973 and moved to Pawhuska in 1974 where she worked at the Pawhuska Journal Capital and was a substitute teacher in the Pawhuska School System. She also coached t-ball. She worked as an alcohol and drug rehab counselor for the area CAP program. She worked as a counselor at Cedar Vale Hospital, at the Juvenile Treatment Center in Nowata, at the Radar Institute at Tulsa Regional Hospital and in Pawnee as a drug and alcohol rehab counselor. She spent the last 15 years as a drug and alcohol rehab counselor at Valley Hope Drug and Alcohol Program in Cushing.
Nola is survived by: Her husband of 20 years: Robert E. Yarbrough and his children; Her daughter Trinity and her husband Gary Armstrong of Marland, Oklahoma; Her son Dustin and his wife Jennifer Smith of Fort Smith, Arkansas; Her daughter Regan and her husband Riley Stevens of Grainola, Oklahoma; And her son Brodie and his wife Becky Smith of Westchester, Pennsylvania. Her grandchildren: Tyler, Alec, Aspen and Grace Armstrong; Riglee Smith; Brittny and Michael Stevens; and Zachary Smith; along with numerous step-children, family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents Bill and Claudine Anderson.
A rosary will be held at Wakon Iron Chapel at 7pm in Pawhuska on Sunday evening, August 14. Funeral services will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pawhuska at 10 am on Monday, August 15th. Burial to follow at Pawhuska Cemetery.
