DOROTHY J. MANNING passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2011 in the Pawhuska Nursing Home. She was 90 years old.
Dorothy was born March 6, 1920 in Verden, Oklahoma, the daughter of John L. and Gladys McGill. She graduated from Deer Creek High School in Edmond, and in 1947, graduated from Central State Teacher’s College (now the University of Central Oklahoma). Dorothy married Dr. W.T. Manning on June 8, 1940 in Britton, Oklahoma. She taught First grades in Corpus Christi, Texas, Oklahoma City and Pawhuska. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Pawhuska where she served as the first woman elder, Sunday School teacher and choir member. In the past, she had maintained homes in Juno Isles, Florida and Tulsa, Oklahoma where she was a member of the Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church. She was also a past member of the Deer Creek Church.
Survivors include: Her sons: John T. Manning and wife, Carrie, of Pawhuska; Alan L. Manning of Tulsa; Seven grandchildren: John T. Jr., Mark, Ali, Abbey, Ambra, Jacob and Blake; Five great grandchildren: Colt Manning, Mallie and Kennedy Starr, Tinley Sell,and Shyla Kitchens; and a host of other family and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Graveside services will be held Friday, February 25, 1:00 PM, in the Pawhuska City Cemetery. The Rev. Ken Woodhams will officiate. Interment will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the First Presbyterian Church of Pawhuska or the Presbyterian Boys Home.
