Order in the Osage trust case

Court of Federal Claims Judge Emily Hewitt issued an order in the Osage Trust case this morning. As Wilson Pipestem put it, the most interesting line is this: "Pursuant to the foregoing and to the Opinion of December 29, 2010, PLAINTIFF IS AWARDED DAMAGES FOR BREACH OF TRUST IN THE AMOUNT OF $330,735,185.55."

Dorothey Manning obituary: A teacher and first woman elder at Pawhuska's Presbyterian Church

 

DOROTHY J. MANNING passed away Tuesday, February 22, 2011 in the Pawhuska Nursing Home.  She was 90 years old.

Dorothy was born March 6, 1920 in Verden, Oklahoma, the daughter of John L. and Gladys McGill.  She graduated from Deer Creek High School in Edmond, and in 1947, graduated from Central State Teacher’s College (now the University of Central Oklahoma).  Dorothy married Dr. W.T. Manning on June 8, 1940 in Britton, Oklahoma.  She taught First grades in Corpus Christi, Texas, Oklahoma City and Pawhuska.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Pawhuska where she served as the first woman elder, Sunday School teacher and choir member.  In the past, she had maintained homes in Juno Isles, Florida and Tulsa, Oklahoma where she was a member of the Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian Church.  She was also a past member of the Deer Creek Church.

Survivors include: Her sons: John T. Manning and wife, Carrie, of Pawhuska; Alan L. Manning of Tulsa; Seven grandchildren: John T. Jr., Mark, Ali, Abbey, Ambra, Jacob and Blake; Five great grandchildren: Colt Manning, Mallie and Kennedy Starr, Tinley Sell,and Shyla Kitchens; and a host of other family and friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Graveside services will be held Friday, February 25, 1:00 PM, in the Pawhuska City Cemetery.  The Rev. Ken Woodhams will officiate.  Interment will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the First Presbyterian Church of Pawhuska or the Presbyterian Boys Home.

James O. Miller obituary: An AIr Force veteran and former superintendent of Walnut Creek State Park

JAMES OSCAR MILLER passed away Saturday, February 19, 2011 at his home in Nelagoney.  He was 82 years old.

Mr. Miller was born September 25, 1928 in Wynona, the son of Aaron and Della Gallamore Miller.  A veteran, he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1947 – 1950.  On March 25, 1950, he married the former Vivian Marie Roberts in Maysville.  She preceded him in death April 21, 2004.  Mr. Miller was retired from the Oklahoma State Parks Department, where he had served as the cabin manager for Osage Hills State Park until 1971, then as the Superintendent of Walnut Creek State Park until his retirement in 1993.  

Surviving are: His daughter: Virginia Arnce; siblings: Audrey Givens of Pawhuska; Betty and Fred Blocklinger of Belton, Texas; Edith and Harold Charter of Longview, Texas; Marie Strayer of Cache; Rose Vaden, also of Cache; Edna Ewers of Bartlesville; Alvin Miller of Pawhuska; Aaron Miller, Jr. of Cache; and Archie Miller of Newkirk; Six grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren (with two on the way), and a host of other family and friends.  In addition to his wife, Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Joyce Meade; and two brothers, Othello Miller and Otho Miller.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, February 23, at 2 p.m. in the A.J. Powell Cemetery, Hominy, Oklahoma.  Aaron Miller, Jr., will officiate.  Interment will follow.  Graveside military honors will be provided by the American Legion and VFW.

Beau Shaw of Barnsdall won the regional wrestling championship by pin tonight, as did Cameron Kirk. Caleb Hawes, Barnsdall, and Lane Frost and Gene Big Soldier placed second. Complete story in this week's Bigheart Times. Meantime, here are Barnsdallians cheering for Shaw's win:

The East Regional Wrestling Tournament Championships are being held in Pawhuska. With 24 schools in attendance, they finished up the first day on the mats and move into the finals on Saturday at noon.

Maurice Hamilton obituary: A World War II veteran and CPA

MAURICE F. HAMILTON passed away Friday, February 18, 2011 in the Pawhuska Nursing Home.  He was 87 years old.

Mr. Hamilton was born September 24, 1923 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, the son of Otto C. and Josephine Pryor Hamilton.  On July 19, 1950, he married the former Betty Richardson in Springfield, Missouri.  A veteran, Maurice served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and had been a member of various American Legion Posts over the years.  Before moving to Pawhuska, the Hamiltons had lived in Tulsa for 49 years.  For 32 of those years, Maurice worked as a CPA and Auditor.  In his spare time, he was very active with the Ponca City Children’s Home.  Maurice was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pawhuska.

Survivors include: His wife: Betty Hamilton; A brother: Otto Hamilton, Jr.; A sister: Christine NoEar; Nieces and nephews: Margie Williams, Berbon Hamilton and Otto Hamilton, III; And a host of other family and friends.  Maurice was preceded in death by his parents, brothers William “Bill” and Eugene Hamilton; sister Marjorie Maker Beartrack; and an infant brother, Melvin Hamilton.

Mr. Hamilton will lie in state at the Indian Camp Chapel, Pawhuska.  Rosary will be recited Sunday February 20, 7:00 PM, at the Chapel.  Traditional Indian Service will be held Monday, February 21, 8:00 AM, also at the Chapel.  Mass will follow at 10:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Pawhuska.  Father Chris Daigle will officiate.  Interment will be in the Pawhuska City Cemetery.  Graveside military rites will be provided by the American Legion and VFW.
