44-year-old Fairfax woman killed in wreck

A Fairfax woman died Thursday afternoon on a county road near her hometown  after her car flipped and hit a tree, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Dead at the scene was Kathy Jean Hurst, 44, who was eastbound on CR 6350 a half mile west of OK 18 when her Geo Metro left the roadway to the right, reentered the roadway then went off again, went into a broadside and then rolled a quarter tine onto the driver's side, then hit a tree with the top of the car. 

Trooper Brian Rose reported that Hurst was not wearing a seat belt and smelled of alcohol. The OHP was helped at the accident by the Fairfax police and fire departments as well as the Osage County Sheriff's Office.

 

Jim Blue obituary: A mechanic, he worked many years for the city of Pawhuska

Longtime Pawhuska resident JAMES FRANKLIN "JIM" BLUE passed away Monday, December 27, 2010 in the St. John Medical Center, Tulsa, Oklahoma.  He was 86 years old.

Jim was born October 29, 1924 in Smackover, Arkansas, the son of James Franklin and Anna (Orr) Blue.  On July 13, 1944, he married the former Edna Gould in Pawhuska.  A mechanic by trade, Jim worked for many years for the City of Pawhuska before retirement.  He enjoyed fishing and gardening in his spare time.

Surviving are: His wife: Edna Blue of the home; His daughters: Betty Rosholt and husband, Art, of Clark Fork, Idaho; Jimma Provinsal and husband, Howard, of Sand Springs, OK; His grandchildren: Jim Rosholt of Tonkawa, OK; Leslie Slinkard of Post Falls, Idaho; Dawn Crooks of Sand Springs, OK; and Manon Taylor of Pawhuska, OK; Ten great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.  Jim was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Wanda Blue.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, December 30, 2:00 PM, in the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery, Hominy, Oklahoma.  Rev. James Hager will officiate.  Interment will follow.

Kee Yazzie obituary

Kee Yazzie, Jr., 61, Barnsdall resident, passed away December 16, 2010 in Bixby , surrounded by those he loved. Kee was born July 7, 1949 to Marie(Gonzales) and Kee Yazzie, Sr. in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He loved spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Myra, children Brian Yazzie and wife Cassidy, Povi Blankenship and husband Dennis. Six grandchildren, Madison and Noah Yazzie and Kaylee, Zach, Kassidy and Gabe Blankenship. He leaves behind a host of family and friends. Memorial services were held at 1:30 pm Dec. 21 at Barnsdall Assembly of God. He will be greatly missed.

Stanley Smith obituary: A member of the Osage and Pawnee nations, he loved to laugh

STANLEY LINFORD SMITH, 52, passed away Monday, December 20, 2010 at his home in Hominy.

Stanley was born May 30, 1958, to Linford “Doc” and JoAnn (Shunkamolah) Smith.  In his spare time, he loved to cook and being outdoors.  He loved to joke around with people and laughing in general.  He more particularly liked hanging out with his family and friends.  He was a member of the Osage and Pawnee Nations.

Surviving are: His son: Jonas Smith; His daughter: Elizabeth Irons; His niece: Junitress Smith; And a host of other family and friends.  Stanley was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Karen Kelly Smith.

Rosary was recited on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 8 p.m., at the Hominy Indian Village Community Center.  Traditional Indian services were Thursday, Dec. 23, at 9 a.m., also at the Center.  Everett Waller officiated.  Mass followed at 10 a.m., St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hominy.  Father Bruce Brosnahan officiated.  Interment in the A.J. Powell Memorial Cemetery, Hominy.

Raymond Radford obituary: He enjoyed hunting, fishing and his family

RAYMOND G. RADFORD passed away Monday, December 20, 2010 at the Pawhuska Hospital.  He was 58 years old.

Raymond was born July 3, 1952 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, the son of Robert and Nellie Ada (Wilson) Radford.  On November 13, 2004, he married the former Sylvia Mae Wadsworth in Pawhuska.  Raymond enjoyed hunting and fishing when he got the chance.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandkids.  He was a man who never knew a stranger.  A great and wonderful person, he will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

Surviving are: His wife: Sylvia Radford; His children: Christy Ann and James Belden;  Raymond Gene Radford; Justin and Kalah Radford; and E.J. and Amber Radford; His brother: Earl Radford; Two sisters: Polly Hull and Nellie Linker; Six granddaughters, one grandson, one great granddaughter and a host of other family and friends.

Graveside services will be held Monday, Dec. 27, 3 p.m. in the Pawhuska City Cemetery.  Rev. Jim Ozbun will officiate.  Interment will follow.

Virginia "Pinkie" Tolson obituary: She was very active in the community

Virginia Smith “Pinkie” Tolson, 82, passed away December 18, 2010. Virginia was born September 3, 1928 in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Walter D. and Victoria Weedy Smith. She graduated from Central High School in Tulsa. She attended Wells College in New York and graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1950. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority where she held many offices including President. Following college, she worked for Deep Rock Oil Company in Tulsa as an administrative assistant.

 In 1952, she married Ralph M. Tolson of Pawhuska, where they made their home. She was active in the community, serving on numerous church, school, and civic organizations. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Ralph M. Tolson of the home, daughter Diane Tolson Chaffin of Denver, Colorado; daughter and son-in-law Victoria Tolson and Steven G. Sewell of Fort Scott, Kansas; sons and daughter-in-laws Ralph Bradley and Micheleen M. Tolson of Petaluma, California; Michael Brian and Beverly C. Tolson of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Steven Douglas and Shelia W. Tolson of Pawhuska, Oklahoma, and grandchildren Michael, David, and Katherine Chaffin; Meredith, Tori, Forrest, and Lee Sewell; Bear and J.B. Tolson; Claire, Abby, and Marshall Tolson; and Stuart and Sarah Tolson.

Contributions in honor of Virginia Tolson may be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Pawhuska, Oklahoma. 

Services will be held Tuesday, December 21, 10:00 AM, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church with Father Bob Evans, assisted by Mother Andrea, officiating.  Interment in the Pawhuska City Cemetery.

Gene Herren obituary: A gold card holder in the Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association

DON GENE HERREN passed away Friday, December 17, 2010 at his home in Pawhuska.  He was 76 years old.

Gene was born June 22, 1934 in Nickerson, Kansas, the son of Darlton "De" and Pauline "Babe" Cook Herren.  A longtime resident of the Pawhuska area, Gene was a member of the Pawhuska Elks Lodge and a big supporter of the Elks Takedown Club.  He was a Gold Card holder in the PRCA.  Gene was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, as well as the Associations in New Mexico, Kansas and Oklahoma.

He is survived by: His Children: Chet Herren and wife, Sylvia; Leisa Payne and husband, Harvey; His grandsons: Chet A. Herren; Colt T. Herren and wife, Sara; Chance T. Herren;  Joey Bills; and Stevie Ray Hargus; His granddaughters: Makenzie Prater and husband, Brad; Cheyenne Herren; and Genie Lee Herren; His great grandchildren: Laura Ann Prater; Cash Tyrel Herren; Brianna Clair Deauber; and McKenna Lee LaBelle; His sister: Joyce Hartman and husband, Miles; And a host of other family and friends.  Gene was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, DeeDee Herren; a grandson, Lance LaBelle; and his grand-dad, Dalton P. Herren and wife.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 21, 2:00 PM, at the Assembly of God Church, Pawhuska.  Chet Herren will honor his father as the service officiant, assisted by Pastor Mike Franklin.  Special speaker will be John Louder.  Interment will be in the Pawhuska City Cemetery.

Marvin Droigk obituary: He enjoyed tending his cattle and John Deere tractors

MARVIN CHARLES DROIGK passed away Wednesday, December 15, 2010 at his home.  He was 64 years old.

Marvin was born July 30, 1946 in Artesia, New Mexico, the son of Marvin and Doris (Mills) Droigk.  On July 13, 1968, he married the former Linda Carole Byers in Lake Arthur, New Mexico.  The Droigks lived in the Okesa area of Osage County.  In his spare time, Martin enjoyed tending to his cattle and his John Deere tractors.  He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Surviving are: His wife: Linda Carole Droigk; Two sons: Wayne Droigk and wife, Chrisana; John Droigk and wife, Becky; His grandsons: David and Mark Droigk; And a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 20, 10:00 AM, in the McCartney's Johnson Funeral Home chapel.  Rev. Martin Witt will officiate.  Interment will be at the Droigk family cemetery in Okesa.
